Ramalama Ding Dong

Something I forgot to put into my profile...I LOVE musicians who don't use instruments. Acapella groups. Musicians who do their famous songs without instruments. I find THAT amazing. That takes talent!!! I first found my love of that type of music with Dion and the Belmonts when they did an acapella version of "I Wonder Why". I couldn't find the actual Dion video....but this is almost EXACTLY what I heard when I saw them at Lackawanna County Stadium

So I was fascinated. In awe if you will. And a friend of mine turned me on to a group called Rockapella. These guys were more than amazing. They had percussion!!! BUT, they claimed no instruments. Ah, the human drum machine Jeff Thatcher was at fault for that!!! I loved the shirt he wore, "GOT SPIT?" If you want to see more of them, search You Tube for more, but here's a song that means a LOT to me, done by one of my favorite artists....ROCKAPELLA!!!

When I worked in Delaware, I had the wonderful opportunity to interview the whole Rockapella group live on the air. No, not on the phone....actually in my studio. Yes, they actually SANG in the studio...LIVE IN FRONT OF ME!!!! HOLY COW!!! They are the ones that did "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego", and the famous "Folgers" commercial jingle...(hey sales, I mentioned Folgers, can you get some cash for that?lol) plus one called "Zombie Jamboree". I think for the first time in my life that day I was star-struck. I've got the audio from that day somewhere in my house, and I didn't think of video taping it. Sorry.

Let me tell ya, I was thrilled when Stan and Frankie played the new song at Christmas time from a college acapella group named "Straight, No Chaser" and their version of the 12 Days of Christmas.

Remember the TV show "America's Got Talent"? Yeah yeah yeah, I hate reality shows, and I hate American Idol, I didn't see this on TV, I saw it online.....there was a group on there called "At Last". They called their style of music, "HipHopApella" instead of acapella. They didn't win, and to this day I don't know why. They were unbelievable!!!

Anyway....I was goofing around online yesterday afternoon, and for the kick of it, I websearched "acapella" and I found a new group (not too too new but still new), that don't call themselves acapella, hiphopapella, they say their music style is "VocalPlay". And this is where each member mimicks or sounds like a particular instrument, so in other words, there are no instruments here either. Ladies and Gentlemen, one of my other favorite acapella....sorry vocalplay groups.....Naturally 7. Unbelievable. Check out Quincy Jones.

That's true talent right there. If you want to see how Naturally 7 got their start, do a you tube search and find them "winging it" on the subway. It's their version of "In The Air Tonight".....a song Magic 93 plays! Hint hint, Stan....Hint hint!!!Or maybe their version of Mister Mr's "Broken Wings". Keep in mind, the bass has changed since this video...but holy cow!

Until next time......Doh doh doh doh doh.....Goodnight Sweetheart well it's time to go....
Doh doh doh doh doh.....Goodnight Sweetheart well it's time to go....
