No problem. No one was in the 'spot' Barry planned on. And out we went. The fishing trip started with Barry's gas auger NOT firing. He yanked that rope at least 50 times and the thing wouldn't even sputter. So I had to take the trek back to the truck to get the manual auger. It's OK, it was only about 1/2 mile walk, and the day was beautiful (I think I mentioned that already) Walking back to the spot, I decided to randomly click a pic with my phone. Here's what I saw.
We fished our area hard. 8 tip ups with decent bait and we were jigging numerous holes (well, I only jigged one, but Barry was all over). I caught 4....count `em....4 bluegill. And they were smaller than the bait we had on the tip-ups. I'm starting to sense this ice fishing season is awful, being that I've been out 5 times so far, and I've been skunked (not caught anything) almost all times we went. What is going on under that ice? Did the fish have a meeting in October and all move to Florida for the winter? Around 3:30, I begged Barry to go somewhere else. So we did. We packed up and went to a private pond that I KNOW is loaded with pickeral. I had a feeling I'd be chasing flags (tip-ups) on THIS body of water. I didn't care if they were tiny, I just wanted to chase flags and catch some fish!We arrived at our new location, popped enough holes for our tip-ups, and waited. And waited. And waited. WHERE ARE THE PICKERAL? WHERE ARE THE FISH?
It was night time when we left there.
The sun is almost down in that picture..........still no fish. Yep, we walked off that lake in the dark without a single fish to show for it. I may retire my ice fishing career for this season if this keeps up. Ugh. Barry still had a good time though.
So on Sunday, I had an invite to go fishing again, this time I said "NO". You heard right, I declined to go fishing. Wow....the fishing must really stink for me to say no. Another friend Mike and I went GeoCaching instead. Nothing too intense (being that it was supposed to rain badly), just some cache's around the area. We found all but one we went searching for. And that ONE was on the 8th Street Bridge somewhere. Gorgeous views, but the traffic was awful. We did learn a lot though through our day. We learned about the Dennison House in Wyoming, we learned about the Bloody Rock in Wyoming too. I didn't even know that was there.
That was one angry woman! And we TRIED to learn if we could park here. We weren't sure, so we didn't venture too far from the truck. Luckily the cache was within reach.
All in all, we had a good time. We found a park in Franklin Township that neither of us knew existed....we found hiking trails right off the Cross Valley that we didn't know were there.....and we found a TANK in Swoyersville. Yes, a full-blown tank! The way I look at it......I may have almost gotten skunked on Saturday, I didn't give the fish a chance to skunk me on Sunday and I still got out and enjoyed the day with friends. Let's just hope I can get my son (when he's old enough....oh, and born first) into the same hobbies.
Enjoy your day! Thanks for reading...thanks for listening to Magic 93.
